Ankeny Iowa: In honor of National Ag Day, and Iowa Ag Week, Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, hosted the 12th Annual Ag Leader Awards, on Tuesday evening, March 19th, 2024. The event was held at the FFA Enrichment Center, in Ankeny, IA, with over 400 dignitaries, elected officials, farm industry leaders, and other invited guests.

Following remarks from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, and Secretary Mike Naig, three organizations were honored for their contributions to Iowa agriculture. Plantpeddler, of Cresco, Iowa was recognized for Leadership in Agriculture Education. This award was based on years of supporting Horticulture in schools, the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University, and most recently for hosting the nation’s first “Educate the Educators” Ag Educators Workshop. A team at Plantpeddler, along with a cross-section of industry representatives conducted a day-long event to help train Ag teachers about how to build, maintain, grow, and teach within greenhouses at their schools. The teachers received continuing education hours for participating in the workshop. This event was made possible through a partnership with the Iowa Department of Agriculture, Iowa State University, Iowa FFA, Plantpeddler, and dedicated industry volunteers.
